Special Needs Pets....

Gentry needs a forever home!

Gentry!

When first rescued, Gentry looked so horrible that he was actually mistaken for a corpse! He was emaciated, blind, had severe mange, and heartworms. Upon examination, it was also discovered that he had a heart murmur and could not be treated for the heartworms. A year later, Gentry is now heartworm free and healthy except for the cataracts. Public donations have allowed us to send Gentry to an eye specialist who has determined that surgery is not an option for him. Additionally, Gentry is at risk for developing glaucoma. Gentry is now available for adoption, but will have to be adopted by someone who understands his medical condition and is willing to continue to monitor them.

Stevie found her new "forever" home!!

Thank you to everyone for your support of Stevie! Stevie has been adopted into a forever home with another long term SMART Rescue Cat, Jack Jack. It is our hope that together Stevie and Jack Jack can live out their lives in their new forever home!

Tramp needs a home!

Tramp!

Tramp was found wandering the streets as an 8 month old puppy. It soon became apparent that something was desperately wrong with this sweet puppy. The vet soon diagnosed Tramp with mega-esophagus. A mal formation of the esophagus that causes eating problems. A special family came forward to provide the donations needed to have him evaluated by the vets at Texas A & M University. Unfortunately, nothing can be done to correct his problem, however we still believe that there is a special family out there for waiting for him. If you are willing to give this very special dog a chance at a family of his own, please contact us at public_relations@smartz.com.

Forrest is looking for his special family!

Forrest was found wandering an apartment complex with a wounded tail. Unfortunately, while we saved his life, we could not save his tail and it had to be removed. It also became appararent that Forrest had some special needs. Like Patty, Forrest has Radial Hypoplasia, only a milder for of it. He is looking for a home that understands his special needs and loves him in spite of them.

If you feel that you can offer any of these animals that special place they need, please feel free to complete an application online or contact us at Public_Relations@smartpetz.com

Pebbles

Pebbles is a 10 year old, chubby little Chihuahua. She is blind, but navigates her environment well. She gets along well with both cats and dogs. Pebbles is spayed, has had a dental and got a good report from her vet regarding bloodwork. At this time, she is heartworm positive and is taking Heartgard monthly. Pebbles is a great companion and really isn't much trouble as she really just likes to hang out and sleep.

   Nellie!

Nellie

Caught in the engine of a car, Nellie lost a front leg and half her tail. She also has been left with chronic diahrea. She is super sweet and gets along with everyone!

Taffy

Taffy

Taffy is a 10 year old Maltese mix, who spent years in a puppy mill as a breeder dog. Taffy was found to be about 10 yrs old, had bad teeth and fist sized mammory tumors. SMART's vets have removed the tumors, cleaned her teeth and had her spayed.
